The Mavelikkara Reddiar Association (MRA) traces its origins back to 1996 when it was initially founded as the Mavelikkara Reddiar Sangam. The first initiative was led by Sri V. Narayanaswami Reddiar as President, with Sri. G Subbarayan Reddiar, serving as Secretary, and Sri R. Subramania Reddiar as Treasurer. Despite their efforts, the association faced challenges and could not sustain its activities at that time.
In 2014, a new team revitalized the MRA, formally registering it under the number ALP/TC/720/2014. The registered address is Aiyappas Building, Mavelikkara - 690 101. The rejuvenated association was spearheaded by:
- President: Sri R. Janardhanan Reddiar
- Vice President: Sri Jagannathan Reddiar R
- Secretary: Sri Muruganandhan Reddiar A
- Treasurer: Sri Rengaraj P Reddiar
This team, supported by 18 executive members, worked diligently to build a
strong foundation for the MRA.Sri R Janardhanan Reddiar was particularly noted
for his significant contributions and leadership, serving as the backbone of the
association. Sri Jagannathan R Reddiar of M/s. Rajeswari Traders, Kandiyur,
Mavelikkara, served as Vice-President since 2014. His support and dedication to
the MRA have left an indelible mark on the organization. His contributions and
commitment to our community will be fondly remembered and cherished for
many years to come.
Since its revival in 2014, the MRA has been actively involved in various
community activities, focusing on cultural, social, and charitable initiatives. The
association distributed sweets and Pongal kits during Diwali and Pongal every
year, with the expenses shared by the executive members. Every two years, the
organization honors students who achieve excellence in SSLC, Plus Two, and
higher grades with mementos. In addition to these festive celebrations, the MRA
also provides medical aid, with the costs being shared by the executive team.
Achievements: The MRA has a commendable track record of supporting its
community. Notable achievements include:
- Financial assistance to two cancer patients, amounting to Rs. 1.5 lakhs and Rs. 50,000 respectively
- Regular distribution of sweets and Pongal kits during major festivals.
- More than Rs. 60,000, which had been lying dormant in a bank account
under the name Mavelikkara Reddiar Sangam, was successfully transferred
to the new Association account by the new office bearers. Currently, a sum
of Rs. 4.25 lakhs is held in the bank as a fixed deposit. Except for Annual
General Body meeting expenses, not a single rupee has been withdrawn
from the Association fund.
The current team, having started their work this year, is already putting in
tremendous efforts to ensure the success and growth of the MRA. Despite the
recent loss of our President, Sri Dr. Ramaraju Reddiar (11-06-2024), who will be
remembered for his dedication and service, the team remains committed to
furthering the legacy of the association with continued dedication and effort.
