Unity in Heritage, Progress in Spirit
In 1933, in Alappuzha, which was then part of the Travancore State, the first Reddy community organization in Malayalam-speaking regions was established under the name “Travancore Reddy Mahajana Sangham.” This organization was founded under the leadership of the Late Sri Appavu Reddiar, Sri Rajappa Reddiar, Sri Veerayya Reddiar, Sri Srinivasa Reddiar, Sri Pedda Reddiar, Sri Muthuswami Reddiar, Sri Kolappa Reddiar, Sri Thennattu Reddiar, Sri Nelli Reddiar, Sri Lakshmana Reddiar, Sri Pola Reddiar, and Sri Tirupati Reddiar. The primary objective of the organization was to ensure the welfare and upliftment of its members. However, it also actively participated in the Indian independence movement. Despite achieving its objectives, the organization’s activities diminished post-independence and eventually ceased altogether.
Years later, in 1987-88, the Alappuzha Reddiar Association in its current form was revived under the leadership of Sri Arjuna Reddiar of Good Morning Stores as President, the Late Sri Ramachandra Reddiar as Secretary, and other key members including Sri Radhakrishna Reddiar, Sri Subbu Reddiar, Sri Padmanabha Reddiar of Swamis, Sri Radha Reddiar and Sri Nagaraj Reddiar of Maheshwari Textiles, Sri Shankar Reddiar, and Dr.Venugopal Reddiar. Recognizing the need for a structured framework, the governing committee decided to register the association under the Kerala Charitable Societies Act in 1996 with the registration number 460/96. Since then, the association has been functioning more effectively through various governing committees and continues its activities to this day.
